today would be day that i will never forget for the rest of my life.
there was much fuss about institute day since two weeks ago. and i always scoffed at it. even till this morning before the event started. i told mr chan that its only some speech day thing. giving out of awards and bla bla. why so much fuss? we booked nanyang auditorium at ntu. the reception was first class. everything was first class.
and i meant that.
institute day has brought forth for me many inspirations and motivation. i took the time to listen to the principal's msg and im glad i did. she had prepared a ppt presentation with her. and as i watched the slides. the pictures of triumphant millennians smiled at me. the images of prestigious awards grinned at me. i beamed with all the happiness of the world.
i watched all the performing arts groups perform. all my wonderful gold silver and bronze and gwh performers. and i saw for myself why they deserved that. i saw the multi-talent-ness of the dikir barat. singing in malay. flawless chinese. perfect tamil. and even in hindustani. they sang of unity and love. of standing together. of strive and hard work. they sang a song of millennians.
im proud of mcs for garnering so many awards. best actor. best actress. best playright. best everything. im proud of the dance groups for garnering silver and bronze. im proud of the drama society for doing almost as well as mcs. im proud of ake for delivering such a breath taking performance. if there was gold with honors WITH HONORS they'd get it. they were wonderful. im proud of hilmi for being such an excellent soloist. up there with hundreds of people watching you sway and immerse urself in the music.
im proud of the people who have done so well to achieve all the national awards. im proud of the teachers who have persisted so hard over the years in achieving excellence. im proud to have been one of them to raise the immense sum for Prophet's Muhammad Birthday Fund.
but most of all.. im simply proud to be a Millennian.
as the whole school stood up to sing the school song. i wanted to burst with pride. i stood at the circle stands. looking down at the school. proudly singing the school song in loud clear voices. see them mirror the smile i wore on my face.
our spirits will never falter
with diligence we strive
with heart we serve
our spirits will never falter
we bring glory to millennia!
and as fast as it started. it ended. people streamed out through the side doors. as i stepped out into the bright sunlight everything that happened in there seemed surreal. i looked back with a wistful smile on my face.
a day i would never forget. one day. it would be me up there on the stage and someone else would take my place in the stands. feeling the same way i did - a proud Millennian.
